Organoclay is an organically modified layered silicate that builds a three-dimensional network in liquid systems. It provides thickening, thixotropy and suspension, making it ideal for coatings, inks, grease and oil-based drilling fluids.

With our different series, you can fine-tune low-shear viscosity, thixotropic recovery and anti-sagging behavior to meet the exact requirements of your formulation.

Water-Based Rheology Modifiers

  • CP-EW Series: general-purpose water-based thickener and thixotrope for paints and pastes. Provides strong thickening at low dosage and improves anti-settling and workability.
  • CP-EWB Series: designed for high-build and long-term storage systems, significantly enhancing anti-sagging and anti-settling in putties, mortars and thick coatings.
  • Anti settling agent for paints CP-EWS Series: focused on high transparency and excellent dispersion, ideal for clear water-based coatings and selected personal care applications.

Typical applications: architectural coatings, industrial water-based paints, putties, dry-mix mortars, tile adhesives and toothpaste.

Organoclay for Solvent-Based Coatings & Inks

  • Pre-gel Grade: for systems requiring pre-gel concentrates to achieve maximum thixotropy and anti-settling.
  • Easy-Dispersing Grade: fully activates under standard high-speed dispersion, simplifying production and reducing batch time.
  • Super-Dispersing Grade: developed for high-solids and high-viscosity systems that demand very fast dispersion and consistent rheology.

Typical applications: automotive refinish coatings, industrial anti-corrosion paints, wood coatings, coil coatings, packaging inks and UV-curable inks.

Organophilic Clay for Oil-Based Drilling & Grease

Our organophilic clays are tailor-made for diesel, mineral oil and synthetic oil drilling fluids. They build a stable gel structure at low shear, maintain viscosity and barite suspension at elevated temperatures and help control fluid loss.

In lubricating greases, organoclay acts as a soap-free thickener, providing high dropping point, strong mechanical stability and excellent water wash-out resistance.

Typical dosage: 2–6% in drilling fluids and 3–10% in grease, depending on base oil and target consistency.

Coatings

In high-build industrial coatings, organoclay significantly increases anti-sagging on vertical surfaces while maintaining good leveling and surface appearance, reducing rework and material waste.

Drilling Fluids

In high-temperature, high-pressure oil-based drilling fluids, organophilic clay maintains viscosity and suspension, reduces fluid loss and helps stabilize the borehole for safer and more efficient drilling.

Grease

As a soap-free thickener, organoclay provides high-temperature and mechanical stability in greases, extending lubrication intervals and reducing maintenance frequency in demanding environments.

Typical Dosage

  • Solvent-based coatings / inks: 0.2–2.0% on total formulation.
  • Water-based paints / putties / mortars: 0.3–1.5%.
  • Grease: 3–10% depending on base oil and target consistency.
  • Oil-based drilling fluids: typically 2–6% according to mud design.

Exact dosage should be optimized through laboratory evaluation for each specific formulation.

Dispersion Guidelines

  • For pre-gel grades, disperse under high shear in a suitable solvent to form a clear or semi-clear gel before adding to the main system.
  • For easy-dispersing or self-activating grades, add during grinding or let-down under high-speed mixing.
  • In water-based systems, control pH and electrolyte content to ensure proper swelling and performance.

Proper dispersion is key to achieving full rheological performance in your formulation.
