organoclay for high temp films: Based on the good high temperature stability of organic bentonite, it can have good and stable performance in an environment above 180°C, especially anti-settling performance, rheological properties and thixotropic properties, which can all be stably displayed. High temperature stable organic bentonite is widely used in high temperature coatings and aerospace coatings, and its application range is extremely wide.

Our organic bentonite, montmorillonite, is an interlayer organic matter between 29% and 32%, which is its ignition loss, which can compensate for the shrinkage stress of the coating and reduce the appearance of microcracks.

Organoclay rheological additive is an conventional organo clay (modified montmorillonite), it is suggested for solvent of low and medium polarity range. It has fine characteristics of thickening, anti-serttling, anti-sag and storage stability.

Advantages of organoclay for high temp films 

  • High purity, low silica content. The Quartz content is less than0.5%.
  • Fine dispersion and particle size.
  • Good self-activated property.
  • Gel is very transparent and of light color.
  • Wide application range including low polarity to high polarity systems.
  • Polar activator can be eliminated.
  • High anti-settling and anti-sag performance.

Application

                    CP-24 is used in the following applications:

  • Oil Drilling Mud
  • Sealants and adhesive.

Using

It can be added directly in powder under high shear condition. Addition level is commonly 0.1%~1.0% (7%-10% in greases) of total formulation by weight. in low and medium solvents, Polar activator is required to achieve better performance. The addition procedure is suggested as below.

  1. Add resin in solvent.
  2. Add CP-24 under slow agitation.
  3. Disperse under high speed for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Add polar activator (95% ethanol or 95% acetone)
  5. Disperse under high speed for 10-15 minutes.
  6. Add wetting agent and other additive.
  7. Grinding and next procedure.

 If to make pre-gel, better efficiency can be achieved. Addition level in pre-gel is 8%-10% of total pre-gel in weight. Pre-gel procedure is as below.

  1. Add solvent or solvent mixture.
  2. Add CP-24  under slow agitation.
  3. Disperse under high speed for 5-10 minutes.
  4. Add polar activator.
  5. Disperse under high speed for 10-15 minutes.

Polar activator is suggested to be ethanol/water (95/5)or acetone/water (95/5). Dosage of polar activator is about 10%-35% of CP-24 by weight.

Note: The suggested addition level of our organoclay and polar activator is based on our lab testing. Exact dosage for detail formulation should be based on user’s testing.
