Organoclay in grease production

The post-adjustment function provides a flexible quality control method for organic bentonite grease production, effectively reducing scrap rates.

When initial performance does not meet standards, there is no need to rework the entire batch; instead, a small amount of organic bentonite can be added to adjust the properties.

For example, if the penetration is too high (too soft), adding 1% of the product and subjecting it to high-shear processing for 20 minutes can reduce the penetration by 20–30 units; if the strength is insufficient, adding 0.5% activator can increase the gel strength by 15%.

A certain company adopted this method, increasing the batch pass rate from 60% to 95% and reducing annual scrap losses by 500,000 yuan.

When making adjustments, it is important to note the order of addition.

It is recommended to pre-disperse the bentonite with a small amount of base oil before adding it to the main batch to avoid local concentration spikes forming hard lumps, ensuring uniform and stable performance after adjustment.
