Storage guidelines for organoclay focus on preserving its functional properties by managing moisture and protecting associated activators.

Organoclay should not be stored in overly dry environments because adequate moisture is necessary to support the formation of its network – structured pre – gel, where water molecules serve as bridges in the net. A recommended storage moisture level is approximately 3.5%.

For polar activators—such as ethanol, methanol, acetone, and propylene carbonate, which are used at 30% – 50% of organoclay mass to facilitate sheet – like structure formation and thixotropic colloid development—storage should maintain their 95% concentration with 5% moisture, as anhydrous forms reduce efficacy.

Organoclay storage areas should be cool, well – ventilated, and shielded from extreme temperatures to avoid moisture imbalance or degradation.
