When comparing organoclay vs bentonite, their roles in sand – textured powder coatings highlight distinct differences. Organoclay added to sand – textured powders primarily functions to create sand effects and reduce gloss, with addition amounts mostly below 1%.

The organoclay used in sand – textured powders has a high oil absorption capacity; when used with universal wax, it can adjust texture size, lower gloss, reduce the amount of sand – texturing agent used, and achieve a fine and dry sand – textured effect. In contrast, when bentonite is added at around 3%, it can create sand effects alone, but the sand texture is coarse, the panel surface tends to turn white, and the gloss is uncontrollable. These differences make organoclay a more favorable choice for refined sand – textured powder applications.
