wet process organobentonite

Wet Processed Organophilic Clay in Oilfield Drilling

Organophilic clay bentonite treated by the wet method is mainly used in petroleum drilling, underground engineering, mineral mining, and other fields. It gives oil-based mud good thickening effects, excellent suspension properties, and low filterability. At the same time, it has stable high-temperature compression resistance. Organic bentonite prepared by the water phase intercalation modification process completes the exchange of montmorillonite interlayer cations and organic quaternary ammonium salts in aqueous solution, achieving organic coverage.

Wet Process Organobentonite Rheological Additive

In most oilfield drilling operations, wet process organobentonite ensures that drilling fluid maintains its flowability and efficient lubrication, especially under extreme geological conditions, thereby reducing friction, extending drill bit lifespan, and significantly improving overall drilling efficiency.

Performance advantages of wet-processed organo bentonite

(Wet Processed Bentonite )

Improve the rheological properties of drilling mud, provide good fluidity, and reduce sedimentation.

Organic bentonite produced by the wet method has the greatest advantage in oil-based drilling fluids due to its exceptional dispersibility. This is because the organic bentonite processed by the wet method is pre-hydrated during production, allowing it to be quickly dispersed when added to oil-based drilling fluids. No additional pretreatment is required, nor is prolonged mixing necessary, thereby saving a significant amount of operational time. This makes it particularly suitable for drilling operations with very fast-paced workflows.

This wet-processed organic bentonite also stands out for its excellent resistance to contamination. It is not affected by salt corrosion, maintains the viscosity and shear strength of the drilling fluid, effectively prevents wellbore collapse, and ensures drilling safety throughout the entire drilling process. Its high-temperature resistance is also outstanding, as it can operate stably at 180°C. This is particularly important in deep and ultra-deep well operations, where wet-processed organic bentonite is essential to ensure stability.

Compared to dry-processed organic bentonite, wet-processed organic bentonite does not require pre-gel treatment. It is particularly suitable for use in oil-based drilling fluids, offering extremely simple and convenient operation.

We recommend using an additional rate of 2% to 5% of the total weight. However, we suggest determining the specific addition rate after conducting tests. After using wet process organobentonite, it demonstrates better compatibility with other additives.

wet process organobentonite improved viscosifier and gelling agent. It is an easy dispersing, rapid yielding organoclay that exhibits high performance efficiency in diesel oil, crude oil, Low BTEX base oil, mineral oil and synthetic containing base fluid formulation. It is stable and has good suspension and thixotropic features. It can also be used in adhesives and sealant.
