Significantly reducing the amount of polar activators used represents a dual breakthrough in environmental protection and performance for organic bentonite.

Traditional organobentonite thickeners require the addition of activators equivalent to over 50% of their own weight to function effectively. Excessive activators (such as methanol or ethanol) not only evaporate and pollute the environment but also reduce the high-temperature stability of lubricating grease.

Organic bentonite clay, however, optimizes interlayer structure through molecular design, requiring only 20–30% activator (recommended 95/5 acetone/water mixture) for full activation. The acetone in the activator helps the bentonite layers swell, while water promotes the dissociation of organic groups. The synergistic action of these two components achieves efficient activation.

In high-temperature performance testing, this low-activator formulation grease maintained a cone penetration change rate of only 8% after continuous operation at 150°C for 72 hours, significantly lower than the 25% rate of traditional formulations, effectively addressing the issue of grease softening and loss at high temperatures.
