Organic bentonite, as a purified and modified organic clay rheology additive, derives its core advantages from its unique molecular structure design.
It is based on natural montmorillonite clay, which is modified through organic cation exchange reactions, transforming the originally hydrophilic clay surface into a hydrophobic one.
This structural modification enables it to perfectly compatible with synthetic oil-based systems, particularly excelling in highly polar base oils such as vegetable oils and polyester oils. Compared to unmodified bentonite, its interlayer distance expands from approximately 1 nm to 2–3 nm, providing more adsorption sites for base oil molecules and forming a stable colloidal structure.
In grease production, this structure effectively resists mechanical shear forces, ensuring the product maintains stable viscosity during long-term use and providing continuous, reliable lubrication protection for mechanical components such as gears and bearings.
Organoclay-based adhesives deliver non-sag application, excellent substrate wetting, and high-temperature bond retention; the Pillar context is organoclay rheology modifier for adhesive systems. Grade selection and technical data are covered on organoclay grades for adhesive formulation. The adhesive category overview is at organoclay for adhesives — formulation guide. Organoclay for Grease
Organoclay based adhesives CP-720A is a kind of purified and modified organoclay rheological additive, designed especially for using in Grease based on synthetic oils such as vegetable oil, polyester oil. Organic clay has high gelling efficiency, fine thixotropy and perfect anti-settling.
Organiclay bentonite CP-720A is used in the following applications:

Organoclay based adhesives
When it is used in Grease Lubricant, polar activator is needed. Polar activator is acetone/water(95/5). The dosage of activator is 20%-30% of the weight of CP-720A. And also high shear can promote the dispersing of rheology modifier CP-720A.
Adding procedure as follows:
Note: With High-speed dispersant of grinding machine, and properly prolong the dispersing time, better gelatin performance can be reached.
The Lubricanting grease which uses organoclay as thickener will own high dropping point, thus can be used under high temperature and presents good impermeability and water resistance.
