In coatings and paints, organoclay is applied efficiently via a straightforward three – step procedure, enhancing the performance of these products.

For activator choice, propylene carbonate, 95% methanol/ethanol, or acetone are suggested, with the dosage being 30% – 50% of the organoclay’s weight, adjustable depending on the polarity of the coating or paint system.

Regarding the way to add it, one method is direct addition: combine the organoclay with solvent/resin, add the activator, and disperse by high – speed stirring.

The other is the pre – gel method: after pre – dispersion, heating (if needed) is used to fully peel off the layered structure of the bentonite, maximizing its viscosity.

For organoclay used in coatings and paints, the conventional addition amount is 0.3% – 2.0% of the total formula, and specific adjustments can be made based on the viscosity needs of the system.

Organoclay thickeners in solvent-based and water-based paint systems prevent pigment settling, improve anti-sag performance, and maintain storage stability without affecting gloss or transparency; full product specifications and coating application data are at organoclay for paint — anti-settling and sag-control data. Solvent-borne and water-borne coating rheology solutions, including dosage guides and compatibility data, are covered in organoclay for coatings — rheology additive selection guide.
