High-shear dispersion is a critical process for activating the gel properties of organic bentonite, with equipment selection and parameter settings being particularly important.

It is recommended to use a high-speed disperser or colloid mill with a rotational speed of 3,000–5,000 rpm. The intense mechanical shear force promotes the complete dispersion of bentonite particles and the full unfolding of their layered structure.

Experimental data shows that gel strength increases by 50% when dispersed at 3,000 rpm for 20 minutes compared to 1,500 rpm, with superior shear stability.

Dispersion time must be reasonably controlled; less than 15 minutes results in insufficient dispersion and localized agglomeration, while exceeding 30 minutes may cause excessive shear to damage the network structure, leading to a 10% decrease in strength.

A lubricant grease manufacturer optimized shear parameters, reducing the standard deviation of gel strength from ±15% to ±5%, ensuring consistent product performance across batches and lowering customer complaint rates by 60%.
