The organic modifiers are dissolved in water, alcohols or organic solvents to prepare for the subsequent reaction. The pretreated bentonite is added to the organic modifier solution and under specific temperature and agitation conditions, the organic cations undergo an ion exchange reaction with the inorganic cations in the bentonite. This step usually takes from a few hours to a day. Once the reaction is complete, the modified bentonite is separated from the unreacted organic modifiers and impurities by centrifugation and filtration. Subsequently, the solids are washed using deionized water or other solvents to remove unreacted organic modifiers and adsorbed impurities. The washed modified bentonite is dried in a drying apparatus, ensuring that the temperature is controlled within a suitable range to avoid destroying the organic modifier. Finally, the dried modified bentonite is ground and sieved to obtain the desired particle size. Through these rigorous steps, we prepare organically modified bentonite, which is used in the coating industry as a suspending agent, thickening agent and other applications, and is also widely used in the paint and ink, aerospace, metallurgy, chemical fiber, petroleum and other industries.
