Rheology modification,This is a chemical additive used to change the viscosity and rheological properties of the formula. Its main component is montmorillonite, which is what we often call bentonite. After modification, we use it as an organic bentonite.
It performs similarly in both water-based and oil-based systems. It is currently widely used in paints, coatings, greases, inks and oilfield drilling muds.
Organoclay is a clay-mineral rheology modifier that provides shear-thinning behaviour and thixotropic recovery in solvent-based systems where cellulosic or polyurethane thickeners are incompatible; the full product range and classification are at rheology modifiers — organoclay classification and performance overview. Rheological additive types, performance comparisons, and selection criteria across different system polarities are covered in rheological additives — types, performance, and selection guide. To source clay-mineral rheology modifiers directly from the manufacturer, see organoclay supplier — clay-mineral rheology modifier factory.
